Welcome!  I’m Jill Kirkpatrick, owner of Classic Travels, L.L.C. located in Bettendorf, Iowa.  I have been actively involved with group travel for over 30 years and have escorted tours to all seven continents.  This site will be updated with our current travel plans and late breaking news.  We offer one-day trips to dinner theaters, shopping venues, Broadway shows in Chicago, mystery trips and more, as well as attending some local events.  Also, several multi-day trips and international destinations are offered, and you may download these brochures from this website when available. We have a busy year ahead of us. As usual the Fireside shows are practically sold out until  Christmas. Sign up now so you’re not disappointed. We have our usual great seats.

The Overnight Shopping, May 7-8, trip is filling and will be a shopper’s delight.  This one covers a great deal of ground! Our Hilton DoubleTree Hotel is right in Schaumburg.

For those of you who love good piano music, Jim McDonough is having a private concert for us in his Cedar Rapids home on his personal Steinway Grand. See June 2 for details inside.

Our Shipshewana trip is planned for right after Labor Day, September 4-7, and has several new places to visit in addition to some of our favorites including a visit to an Amish school. The hotel is the beautiful Das Essenhaus for all three nights.  See the article enclosed for more details.   

Two cruise previews will be held Friday, May 11:  At 3:00 p.m. we’ll showcase the cruise on Celebrity’s “Equinox” January 24-February 3 to the Western Caribbean. There are some generous amenities offered for signing up prior to March 31. See article inside for details.  The other cruise will be Hawaii and the date is February 27-March 10. All we’re waiting for is airline pricing. We’ll go in March so we can see the humpback whales!  Plan to join us at 4:00 p.m.

Sold out with 6 on the wait list. Aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer comes to the big city from Allentown PA, and soon lands her first big job in the ensemble of a glitzy new Broadway show. Just before opening night, the leading lady breaks her ankle. Will Peggy be able to step in and become a star? This trip is packed with great shopping. Stop at the DeKalb Oasis for morning “treats” before spending several hours at The Little Traveler in Geneva, IL. Then travel to the outlets of Geneva Commons for the Home Goods Store, Crate & Barrel and more.  We’ll visit Terri Lynn Nuts and then onto Schaumburg where we’ll include IKEA and the Container Store.  Our hotel is the Hilton DoubleTree in Schaumburg. After a full, hot breakfast spend the rest of the day shopping at Woodfield or IKEA again with a stop for dinner and a visit to Trader Joe’s en route home. Western Caribbean Cruise/Tour

It’s on Celebrity’s Cruise Line’s “Equinox” and includes ports of Key West, Florida; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; and George Town, Grand Cayman; a night in Wood Dale, IL with breakfast and an early flight the next day to Florida with pre and post cruise nights in Fort Lauderdale, a Palm Beach tour including the Henry Flagler Museum, a sightseeing cruise on Fort Lauderdale’s waterways viewing mansions and yachts, local touring and more. Many of you have heard Jim perform in various cities in the spring and at the holidays. He now has opened up his home in Cedar Rapids and is offering a private two-hour concert on his personal Steinway piano. Seating is limited to 50 and we’ll be stopping in Coralville at Texas Roadhouse for lunch prior to his 2:00 p.m. exclusive concert for our group.  During his intermission, Jim will be serving a selection of desserts with champagne and/or a non-alcoholic beverage. Church Basement Ladies, 2nd Helping, Fireside Dinner Theatre in Fort Atkinson, WI
Join us as our ladies deal with life, death, and new adventures, finding strength in each other from below the “House of God”. This time around the year is 1969 and the world is changing. As folks protest the Vietnam War and women are demanding equal pay for equal work in their small rural Minnesota community, the ladies of the Lutheran church basement kitchen are dealing with changes of their own. With their humor and hilarious antics they take us from serving the high school students at the Luther League Banquet to a church sponsored Missionary Night and the rise and fall of a Viking’s Super Bowl Sunday. Lunch is a salad of strawberries, mangoes, candied pecans, and cheddar cheese on Arugula then glazed with raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The entrée is a beef short rib with whipped potatoes, a mix of fresh Julienne vegetables, and a baked tomato filled with seasoned garlic croutons, Feta cheese and bacon chips. It remains the hottest ticket in New York. There will be time to shop/eat downtown prior to the 1:30 p.m. matinee, an optional visit to Trader Joe’s prior to the show and a stop for dinner en route home. Only 2 seats left.  It’s among the world’s most popular musicals and had an 8-year run on Broadway. Here is Rydell High’s senior class of 1959; duck-tailed, hot rodding “Burger Palace Boys” and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking “Pink Ladies” in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s. Head “greaser” Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their “Summer Nights” as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through songs like “Greased Lightnin”, “It’s Raining on Prom Night”, and “Alone at the Drive-In Movie” recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. Based on the beloved holiday film, this hilarious fish-out-of-water comedy is now a must-see holiday musical.  Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh realities that his father is on the naughty list and his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true spirit of Christmas. Miscellaneous Information

Reservations:
If you would like to make or cancel reservations or to receive a brochure, call us at Classic Travels, at (563) 332-0014.  Our answering machine will take your message and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.  Remember to speak slowly and clearly and to give your name, telephone number, and message so we can get back to you if necessary. If you don’t receive a call back within 24 hours, we’re probably on a trip, and if outside the United States, will only be able to respond to email messages. You will, however, receive a call back as soon as we return. Check out the newsletter to see if we’re traveling.

Trip Departures:
Bus arrives 30 minutes prior to departure from Northwest Bank & Trust Company, 100 E. Kimberly Road, Davenport, lower parking lot, west side of the building. Tenants and employees park in this lot and the Bank graciously allows us to use it while on trips.  As a result, please park your vehicles west and north of the building. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Payment:
Trips are payable about 30 days in advance unless stated otherwise.  If you need to cancel, call us as soon as possible as many dates sell out and have a wait list.  For overnight trips, a reservation is confirmed only when a completed reservation form, with your down payment, is received.  Checks should be made payable to Classic Travels and mailed to 3371 Eastridge Drive, Bettendorf, Iowa 52722. Usually final payment dates are listed at the end of trip descriptions.  To be fair, if payment is not received by the final payment date, reservations will automatically be offered to those on the wait list. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Gift Certificates:
The perfect gift for birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, or just “because”, is a Classic Travels gift certificate available in any amount.  Simply give us a couple days’ notice to prepare one for you.
